Indian Summer......A Beautiful Memory!

Good afternoon from "Maggie The Magnificent Beagle"and myself!

I have enjoyed the "magnificent" weather for the last week and must say how sorry I was to see it end.

My husband and I had the pleasure of roaming the paths along the  Elkhorn Creek (with Maggie), enjoying open windows with warm breezes and  a trip to one of the most beautiful horse track in the world, Kenneland in Lexington, KY.

Kenneland was at the height of  autumn beauty with crisp blue skies, warm temperatures and foilage at  peak colors.    No......we didn't win anything....but it is the "experience and ambiance"....well...ok, it would be fun to win some money.

I am gearing up for the Holiday Fair in Lexington, KY, November 17th and 18th.   I painted this week plein aire (outside and on location).  I enjoyed the experinece....however,  it does take some "getting used to".   When the warm weather returns in the spring I will give it another try.

Update on Kentucky Guild Of Artists And Craftsmen Fall Fair, October13th and 14th:

Beautiful warm weather to set up on Friday. Saturday was even nicer than Friday .....outstanding for the guests and exhibitors.  Sunday we lost  to the  wind gusts!

The KGAC Executive Director/Board and President made the decision to close early. Difficult decision but  correct considering the storms previous history and the concern for the safety of guests and exhibitors. A huge" Thank You" to all the guests who visited the fair  and supported the artisians with your purchases.

This is defintely a "Spaghetti Sunday"my husband is making "from scratch" his famous sauce for our evening meal.... I can smell it now...ummm.

I want to express my concern for all my friends and family on the east coast, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey, please.... stay safe during the next few days. You are in my thoughts.

Have a week filled with blessings and gratitude.

Theres a chill in the air!

Good afternoon.

The fall weather has arrived with  crisp blue skies and  leaves in full color!

I spent the previous week-end at the Indian Fort Theatre for the annual Kentucky Guild of Artists and Craftmens Fall Fair.  The weather was outstanding on Saturday.,"not too hot....not to cold....but...just right"!  Sunday we fought  wind and gusts all day .... Mother Nature won.  We closed the show two hours early.  Good call by the President and Executive Director of the Guild.  The chance of a guest or exhibitor being injured due to the wind was not worth the added time to stay open.

I am working on the Holiday Art Fair which will be held November 15th and 16th in  Lexington at the Convention Center downtown.  I hope many of you can come and  and I  look forward to seeing everyone.

I am  excited and proud to announce that I have been juried into the Kentucky Arts Council, Kentucky Crafted Program.
 Program statement:

"In recognition  of artistic excellence, Pamela Clegg, has been selected to participate in the Kentucky Crafted , a program of the Kentucky Arts Council, the state arts agency, which is supported by state tax dollars and federal funding from the National Endowment for the Arts."

I am enjoying this fall weather...hope you are also.

Is it Almost Fall ....Already?

Good afternoon to everyone.

Where did the time go?  My last post was a little over two months ago!

I shared that I had two workshops planned for August...both  went great and I was able to set up and  teach a third workshop in August as well.

I am so excited to work with such creative and talented students who are open to new experineces. These artists show  no fear and are willing to go "whevever the road takes them".   We had such a good time.  Teaching eneregizes me and  helps  me  evaluate  my  own painting process so that I may  present the lesson  in a clear and concise  manner.  For those of you who know me , you know that  I enjoy people, pastel painting  and talking. A great combination and  I am right at home in this atmosphere.

The annual  Woodford County Humane Soceity 2012 Freedom Fest was in June.  The "Sneak Preview Party" at Headley-Whitney Museum was outstanding.   It was my pleasure to donate the  painting of   "Maggie The Beagle" for this event.   Maggie is the face of a homeless dog that found a home......at my house six years ago. My husband and I always wanted a "daughter"....even if she is canine. What a great pet she is......there are so many dogs and cats  just like Maggie waiting for a home.  Please consider adoption if a pet is in your future.

I have two paintings at the KGAC show at Gateway Arts Center in Mt. Sterling, KY during the month of September.  My thanks to Gateway for hosting a exhibition for the KGAC members.  The venue is beautiful.

The fall show season is almost here and I will be busy preparing for two shows.

I am a participating  in the Kentucky Guild Of Artists and Craftmens Fall Fair at Indian Fort Theatre in Berea, KY.  The dates are October 13th and 14th.  Their website is www kyguild.org.  You can get more information and directions at the website.

In November I will be in Lexington, Ky for the Lexington Art and Craft Show at Heritage Hall at the Lexington Center, 430 Vine Street, Lexington, KY.  Those dates are November, 17 and 18th. The website is www.LexingtonArtShow.com .

If you have a chance, please visit the fairs and see  beautiful fine art and crafts that will be in the artist/exhibitors booths.   I will have new paintings for both shows.  Great holiday shopping.

Hope everyone enjoys this wonderful weather. Have a wonderful week.

Moving Forward....

The sun is peeking out this afternoon and  I am so glad  we finally got a little rain this week-end.  Well needed relief from the heat and dry weather we have experienced for several weeks.

I have been remiss in posting on my blog, but everyone knows that" life happens" and your priorities change daily.

I do want to thank everyone who came to the Francisco's Farm Art Festival  It was hot both days, but no rain and everyone had a great time.  Thank you to Lexington Art League.....the show was beautifully managed and executed for exhibitors and  guests.  The volunteers (again) were the best!  Equs Run Vineyard  is a beautiful location for the show and are gracious hosts.

It was  one of  the best shows I have participated in  for several years.  The customers were fantastic. I more than met my goals for the show.  I would like to say  Thank You to everyone who visited my booth and to the customers who liked my paintings enough to take  them home!

Floral Fusion at Scott County Arts Consortium went great.  Joan McCarthy made a beautiful floral  arrangement interpreting  my paintings titled, "Somewhere Our There".

I will update everyone on shows and exhibitions in next blog, I am teaching two workshops in August....which I enjoy so much.  I am thankful to be so busy.

OK...now for the hard part.  Many who read my last blog, know that "Murphy" my big, fat  yellow cat had been sick and we had taken him to the vet and felt confident that he  was on the road to recovery.  That was not to be.  Murphy was in the intial stages of live cancer after all and we were not able to save him despite  a valiant effort from Murphy, myself, and our wonderful vet Dr. Parr.

Murphy left this world  quietly and gently as I held him on June 12th.   I will not even try to say how much Murphy  is missed......because I am sure many have been where I have been these last few weeks.   I am grateful for the time I had with this wonderful cat......who thought he really was a dog!

"Murphy Clegg"  January 31, 2004 - June 12,  2012 ...

I hope everyone has a wonderful week.

Rainy Days and Sundays

Happy Mother's Day !

I have had the blessing of being busy these last few weeks.....I am  ready for the blessing of rest and relaxation.

I taught  a pastel class Saturday afternoon at Art Zone in Georgetown.  What a talented group of artists....willing to take a chance and step out of their comfort zone while enjoying the process. Thanks to each of these fellow artists for sharing their joy at creating with me!

Francisco's Farm Art Festival is on the horizon and I am  concentrating on creating new pieces for the June event.   I look forward to seeing everyone at this wonderful venue in Midway, KY.  I will post an invitation later this month.

I am proud to be participating again this year in the Woodford Humane Society's  annual  Freedom Fest event .  This wonderful volunteer organization provides  many  animals a chance for a loving home. Please check out their site at  Woodford Humane Society and get the details of the art auction and events surrounding Freedom Fest.  I will post more information and the painting I will be donating later this month.

Well, time to relax....but I will share that my "fat yellow tabby cat"....Murphy... is well amid the rumors that he was having serious liver issues.  Murphy continues to eat like there is no tomorrow, and as my husband I recover from the vet bill....we are just happy he is still enjoying his place of honor on the ottoman!  Oh how they steal our hearts.

All my best to each of you.....have a joyful week.

Good Afternoon...and thank you to everyone who attended the reception at Ice House Gallery  this past Friday evening.  What a great time we had, great weather, good music and lots of interesting friends old and new.

A special thank you to Charles Gregory and Yolanda Poston for inviting me to exhibit at this beautiful  and historic working studio and gallery in downtown Georgtown.   Both Yolanda and Charles are gracious (besides being wonderful artists themselves) .  The reception was great , good food and  music provided by "Moses Alley"  ...a very talented group of musicians who added just  the right touch to the evening.

For those who were unable to attend the reception, the Ice House is open to the public on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday so if you get a chance we would love for you to stop in and look around

Off to start new projects....... Time To Take A Breath!

I delivered the  art work for my upcoming show to Ice House Gallery this morning...... I left Yolanda and Charles working their creative  magic of hanging art....and I am taking a well need breather for the next day or so.  Time to recharge.

These last few weeks have been busy with finishing a commission, rearranging  my art at Gallery 210 in Berea, entering juried shows/exhibitions and my regular job.......plus trying to create some new art.  The anticipation and excitement that goes along with a show is fun, but at the end I was thinking ...., "I must have been out of my mind to think having a one-woman show  was a great idea".

Thanks to my  supportive husband for the extra encouragement and wonderful meals he prepared......David  is really a  "creative" as well as a good cook!

And for all the artists out there.....you know the doubts that creep in when you are showing your work.  You love what you do,  but it's  like "wearing your heart on the outside",  you are vulnerable, you want to touch others with what you have painted......it doesn't have to be the same feelings....it just needs to connect!   Not well said, but I think many artists feel a very similar feeling.

My last post included the invitation to the reception, the date, time and location is included.

Thank everyone in advance who will be attending..... I will be honored by your attendance.

Perfectly Pastel...a fun workshop!

Good  morning everyone,

I taught my workshop,  Perfectly Pastel....The Fun Contintues,  Saturday at ArtZone in Georgetown, KY.  What a great group to teach, the students are creative, talented and willing to try new ideas and  enjoy the experience.  It can be challenging to work in groups, but we learn  from the sharing of other students.

The workshop  is the second in a series of mini-workshops for beginning and intermediate students of the pastel medium . Each session builds on the techniques and foundations that we have  learned in a previous session.  We are scheduling another workshop for April and I encourage anyone who is interested to contact ArtZone or myself for information.

I read a qutoe today and  could not find the author to credit...so even though I am not the creator of the quote, it is worthy to pass on , and if someone knows the author...pass that along  and I will be happy to give credit.

"Let your gratefulness overflow into Blessings to all those around you'".

Hope everyone has a creative week....filled with Blessings.

Great Workshop !

What a opportunity I had on Saturday!

As a member of  Kentucky Guild of Artists and Craftsmen, I had the opportunity of attending a professional education workshop provided  for  members of the Guild.

J Jason Horejs, of  Xanadu Galleries in Scottsdale, AZ , author of Amazon.com bestseller, "Starving" to Successful,  and  How To Sell Art  conducted the  day long workshop.

Everyone participating got a inside look at gallery representation  from Jason,  a successful gallery owner for 17 years. Jason is the son of  nationally known oil painter, John Horejs.

Jason also demonstrated his simple and accurate inventory system software  "ArtTracker 2.0", which is a easy to use and will help every artist get organized.   Participants got "ArtTracker" and a copy of  Jason's book, "Starving" To Successful.  Thanks!

Thanks to Jeanette and Carol for the hard work of grant writing and then bringing it all together for the KGAC members.

Well, back to work on my commission.....which is going well.....I almost hate to say that ....I'm afraid I'll jinx it.  I am almost finished with the "ugly"stage...... artists will know what I am talking about when I mention this stage.

Have a great week.....and forget the snow.....it was just Bill Meck dreaming!

Winter Arrived ...A Little Late

As I type this I am thinking that winter did arrive....just a little late.

I have spent my "artist week" work working on a commission for a wonderful family......a surprise for the wife.  I work slow, getting to know the family in a way that only an artist can.  The details start to emerge.  What a pleasure it is!

I am teaching a pastel workshop at The Art Zone @ArtWorks Saturday February 25,.....there are still open seats.

Have a great week......

Make Over 2012

I wanted to mention to my  fellow friends, and artists  that  my website, pamelaclegg.com  is "undergoing a makeover" during the next few weeks.

My son, Craig (who is an expert, patient and understands the artists heart) will be giving my website a "face lift" and updating all my information, including upcoming events for the year.  I am excited!

You know I love a blank canvas.....the fun begins!

Friday, February 3, 2012

Good morning!  It's another beautiful "winter" day in Kentucky.  Even though we have not had any snow this year...and I always like one really good snow.....I am enjoying the warm weather and sunshine.  I actually worked in my flower beds a couple of  days ago. My flower beds need work, but I love the solitude of just pulling weeds or "turning the dirt over".

I have a new commission and a workshop coming up that I need to spend some time on.....but I went from "holiday overload" to "spring fever"  in February!
Now down to business.....

Monday, January 23, 2012

Welcome to the New Year!

Yes, I know it is almost February...I have taken the last month off to recharge my  creative side after a hectic last few months.
I am excited to start a blog and  am looking forward to meeting new friends and sharing art with others.
So off to my favorite room.....my studio where a blank piece of paper and pastels awaits......I love that first stroke!

Have a great day.
